We previously revealed some insight into what the Trader Joe’s employees really think of their shoppers and how the way shoppers try to be helpful can actually backfire.
Mackenzie Filson, who shared her experience at Trader Joe’s with EatingWell, explained that customers often misdirect their helpful energy in ways that end up slowing things down for the employees.
For example, at the checkout, it’s common for customers to hand items directly to the cashier, which can mess with the store’s efficient process.
“One or two items makes sense, but no more than that,” Filson said.

If you’ve got items that need to be bagged separately, or a cold drink you’re saving for the car, it’s best to set those aside and hand them over separately.
Otherwise, it’s best to leave the rest to the professionals.
“Next time you want to be helpful in line, just set your items on the conveyor for the cashier to scan when they’re ready,” Filson suggested.
