Netizens in India went berserk after Vietnam tightened traffic rules to curb violations.
The country last week introduced a system where citizens can earn 10 percent of the penalty after reporting valid traffic violations. The new rules allow whistleblowers’ identities to remain confidential to protect their privacy.
In addition, the Southeast Asian nation has significantly increased penalties for traffic violations in recent weeks.
To better understand the dramatic increase in fines, here is an example. The monthly per capita income in the country stands at 8 million Vietnamese dong (RS 27,000), and the new penalties would take away six million dong from a two-wheeler for jumping a red light. While the number goes up to 20 million dong for a car owner.
The move that left the country divided also drew attention from experts in India with NITI Aayog member Arvind Virmani backing a similar scheme in the populous nation.
Meanwhile, internet users in India are stunned by the move and flooded social media platforms with unique ideas!
While few users optimistically called for the introduction of the system in the country to end more serious traffic violations, others turned to exploring hilarious discussions.
On the other hand, a system where citizens can report traffic violations through various social media platforms is prevalent in states like Telangana, however, there is no financial benefit from it to the complainants.
