Mukuru Robbery: Shots Fired, Employees Held Hostage as Armed Robbers Raid Mukuru Money Transfer in Glen View, Make Off with US$2,789
A Mukuru Money Transfer agency at Makomva Shopping Centre in Glen View, Harare, was the target of a daring armed robbery on Monday morning.
A gang of four suspects made off with over US$2,700 and R2,350 in cash after holding employees hostage.
Mukuru Armed Robbery
According to The Herald, the robbery occurred at approximately 10 AM when the suspects, armed with pistols, arrived in a black Toyota Mark X.
The gang parked in front of the money transfer agency, which is located inside a pharmacy, and brandished their weapons to intimidate the staff and customers.
According to eyewitnesses, the robbers appeared to have conducted surveillance earlier in the day, targeting a security company delivering cash to the agency.

Workers Held Hostage, Shots Fired
The suspects held workers hostage and looted US$1,839 from the teller and R2,350 in cash. They also attacked a customer who had just withdrawn about US$950, adding it to their haul.
As they fled the scene, the robbers fired shots into the air to deter members of the public who attempted to chase them. Panic ensued at the busy shopping centre, with shoppers scrambling for safety.
A video showing the robbers speeding off in a car after the robbery has since emerged on social media.

Police Launch Investigations
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said,
“We can confirm that US$2,789 and R2,350 was robbed by four suspects who were armed and using a getaway car.”
A team of detectives from the CID Homicide and other departments has since been deployed to investigate the case. Authorities are also working to determine whether the getaway vehicle had a registration number.
Public Assistance Needed
The police have urged members of the public with any information related to the incident or the suspects to report to their nearest station.
