So long, Siddiq

WHY did Tulip Siddiq not quit earlier — and Keir Starmer put up with her so long?

Even when it was blindingly obvious no “anti-corruption minister” could survive being engulfed by corruption allegations, the PM expressed full confidence in his friend.

Why? It just heaped more damage on his Government when he needs it least.

The Bangladesh accusations are serious.

As our Government’s ethics adviser says of Siddiq: “It is regrettable she was not more alert to the potential reputational risks.”

That goes for Sir Keir too.

Prisons horror

TWO young thugs brandishing zombie knives INSIDE prison make a terrifying mockery of our broken justice system and anarchic jails.

We are used to drugs and phones being routinely smuggled in. How did two huge knives get into HMP Feltham, already Britain’s most violent jail?

And when the Justice Ministry glibly assures us of its “zero tolerance” to prison violence, what does it even mean?

This pair waved blades with impunity — and have reportedly since been freed.

When the deadly gang thuggery rife on our streets continues unimpeded in jail, it’s clear efforts to tackle it are failing.

Saved by Boris

GIVEN that the Covid Inquiry’s sole remit so far seems to have been to prosecute and condemn Boris Johnson’s Government, yesterday saw quite the revelation.

Its jabs rollout saved more lives than anywhere else in Europe, admitted lead counsel Hugo Keith.

Developing, testing and administering those vaccines involved many scientists, doctors, the NHS and even The Sun’s Jabs Army volunteers.

But the masterstroke was Boris hiring Kate Bingham to run the show at lightning speed.

He did that under fire and without waiting for Labour’s EU pals to catch up.

Yes, there were other failings during Covid. But the rapid jabs rollout saved 123,000 lives in under a year.

Other than nailing down our readiness for a new pandemic, what more is left to say?

IRA surrender

WHAT possessed the Government to open the door to compensation claims from IRA suspects over events 50 years ago?

It has abandoned a legal battle to continue the Tories’ block on the claiming of damages from taxpayers over suspects’ detention during the 1970s.

But given their role in the Troubles that is surely a principle worth defending.

Labour’s hard-left often side with terrorists. But it is not what Keir Starmer’s “changed” party is meant to be about.
