After teasing that they may do away with the popular Hot Honey Flavor, fans like NBA player and Greek Olympian Giannis Antetokounmpo responded immediately with dismay[/caption]

With over 2,000 restaurants across the world, the restaurant has gained thousands of die-hard fans over the years.

So when the chain posted a cryptic message on the social media platform X about getting rid of one of its most popular menu items — customers responded.

“Y’all gonna yell at me if I say hot honey might be leaving?” Wingstop (@wingstop) wrote in a post on Monday with an appetizing photo of golden-fried, honey-seasoned wings.

The backlash was immediate.

Many questioned the decision – including an NBA star with over 3 million X followers.

“What is this!?!? Who do I have to call to get you to change your mind??” replied Giannis Antetokounmpo (@Giannis_An34) of the Milwaukee Bucks, who is competing for Greece in the 2024 Olympics.

“Tenders are useless without hot honey,” a second commented.

Others threatened not to return.

“I’ll never come back if you do this,” one user wrote, adding several broken heart emojis for effect.

“I wouldn’t yell I’d cry,” another commented.

“Why would you make my Wednesdays LESS spicy??? These are one of the few spicy flavors I can eat without my head feeling like it’s on fire!” a third lamented.

Wingstop is well-known for offering guests a wide variety of flavors to mix with a basket of wings or chicken tenders.

The national chain currently offers 13 different wing sauces, ranging in spiciness from “no heat” to “all the heat.”

Their spiciest option — Atomic — earns a five flame rating on their scale, compared to the multiple other choices with zero flames.

Each set of wings can be ordered with the desired flavor in a wet or dry style.

Wingstop has undergone a number of menu changes since its founding in 1994, making headlines again in 2023 with three big upgrades.

The company announced last year that it would begin offering its fry seasoning — Pure Mayhem — as an option for proteins — making a long-time hack a public possibility.

“In an unprecedented turn of events that will shock the crowd, Wingstop’s signature sweet and savory fry seasoning is now available on fans’ favorite proteins,” Wingstop wrote in a statement.

The chain also combined two fan favorites to make a tasty new flavor option.

“A clutch mashup of two fan favorites – Hot Honey Rub and Lemon Pepper – delivered just in the nick of time, this flavor combines sweet honey and zesty lemon in a fiery dry rub,” they said.

For diehard garlic fans, there was another treat in store too.

” Sure to bring tears to fans’ eyes during the most emotionally charged tournament moments, this flavor tastes like savory garlic, tossed with bold Cajun seasoning and a buttery parmesan finish,” Wingstop promised.

Representatives for Wingstop and NBA star Antetokounmpo did not immediately respond to requests for comment by The U.S. Sun.
