A high-speed collision involving a car and a high-voltage utility pole left a woman critically injured after she was ejected from the vehicle, landing on a nearby shop’s roof before falling to the ground. The incident occurred last night on Route 226 in Buriram.
Police Lieutenant Nuntikarn Ampawan from the Buriram City Police Station reported that the accident took place at 9pm yesterday, October 23. The crash site was located near the Buriram Provincial Government Centre and the Chang International Circuit. Nuntikarn, along with Sawang Chan Yattra Tham rescue unit, rushed to the scene following the emergency call.
The accident involved a Mazda 3 that collided with a high-voltage utility pole, breaking it into three sections. The car’s front end was destroyed.
Approximately 50 metres from the collision site, the driver, identified as 43 year old Ratchakorn, was found unconscious inside a marble shop. She had been thrown from her vehicle through the windshield, landing on the shop’s roof before plummeting to the ground.
Upon further inspection, the shop’s roof, made of metal sheets, had a gaping hole likely caused by Ratchakorn’s fall. It remains unclear where Ratchakorn was headed at the time of the accident.
Nid, the 55 year old owner of the granite shop, recounted that she was resting inside her shop when she heard a deafening noise outside. Shortly after, another loud noise came from the roof. Nid went outside to investigate and discovered Ratchakorn had fallen through the roof, reported KhaoSod.
“I initially thought the loud noise was a transformer explosion,” said A, a local living near the crash site. “This happens quite often, especially when a MotoGP event is approaching. But the power didn’t go out, and then I learned that a car had crashed into the utility pole.”
In related news, a young woman, heavily intoxicated, lost control of her car, causing it to flip over and sustain significant damage. When confronted by police, she confidently stated, “It hurts in my heart,” while expressing confusion about how the accident occurred.
