ZRP’s Essential Holiday Safety Tips & Precautions – Stay Safe This Festive Season

ZRP Issues Safety Precautions for the Holiday Season

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a list of safety tips and precautions for the holiday season. The message is aimed at safeguarding lives and property.  The list of safety precautions was issued by the ZRP Mabelreign Crime Liaison Committee (CLC)

“We urge all members of the public to be vigilant,” said Chief Inspector Mangena, the Officer-in-Charge at ZRP Mabelreign. “Let’s work together to ensure our communities are safe during this busy period.”

Key Safety Tips for Holidaymakers

In their official statement, the ZRP urged citizens to secure their homes and belongings when travelling.

“Make sure you have someone in charge of the house whilst you are away,” said the statement. “Do not leave keys under door mats or flower pots.”

Motorists were advised to park in well-lit areas and avoid leaving valuables such as laptops, mobile phones, or cash in their vehicles.

“Be cautious of vehicles with no number plates,” the statement added.

Those celebrating at home were reminded to lock doors and gates even when enjoying activities in the backyard.

“If you are having a braai at the back, make sure the front doors, windows, and gates are closed and locked,” the statement said.

The ZRP also emphasised the importance of installing burglar bars on kitchen doors and windows.

Stay Safe on the Roads

The ZRP urged people to avoid illegal public transport, commonly referred to as mushikashika.

“This mode of transport is not allowed by the law and poses serious safety risks,” warned Chief Inspector Mangena.

Citizens were encouraged to avoid carrying large amounts of cash, laptops, or other valuable items in public.

“Change your route often, whether walking or driving,” advised the ZRP.

The police also called for vigilance when leaving banks or ATMs.

“Be aware of your surroundings at all times,” said the statement.

Say No to Drugs and Crime

The ZRP further cautioned against drug and substance abuse. “Together, we can make our communities safer,” said Sergeant Chomunakira, the Public Relations Officer for ZRP Mabelreign.

Suspicious activities and unlicensed liquor sellers should be reported to the nearest police station. “Report all crime to your nearest police station,” the statement said.

For assistance, the public can contact Chief Inspector Mangena on 0783 757 976 or Sergeant Chomunakira on 0774 313 181.
