Zvishavane Man Falls Victim to “Chadonha” Scam, Loses US$15,000
A man from Zvishavane was left counting his losses after falling victim to a notorious scam locally known as ‘chadonha’.
The victim, 43-year-old Luckson Daka, was duped out of US$15,000 by a group of con artists in Harare.

Court Proceedings: Suspect in Custody, Others Still on the Run
It is in the States case that on November 19, Wellington Nhiwatiwa, 46 and seven other accomplices, who remain at large, approached Luckson Daka after he had just alighted from an Inter-Africa bus from Zvishavane.
According to ZimLive, the group dropped a bundle of fake banknotes wrapped in plastic in front of Luckson Daka, and tricked him into thinking he had come across real cash.
The situation escalated when Daka was persuaded to head to Harare Kopje mountain with the promise of sharing the money. There, another group of five men arrived pretending to be police officers.
It was at this point that Daka’s own money, a whooping US$15,000, which was in his satchel, was stolen by the daringscammers.

Investigation Ongoing: Police Search for Additional Suspects
One of the main suspects, Wellington Nhiwatiwa was arrested, while the other suspects went on the run. The police are still searching for the remaining suspects involved in the scam. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the fraud case and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
Main Suspect Faces Fraud Charges in Court After Challenging Remand Placement
Meanwhile, Wellington Nhiwatiwa has since appeared before Harare Provincial Magistrate Isheanesu Matova facing fraud charges. He challenged his placement on remand and was scheduled to return to court for a ruling on his application.
